Group classes
Yeshito did not grow up in Spain or come from a Flamenco family. As a Flamenco teacher this is an advantage because he knows what is needed to learn this art from the beginning as an adult. Through formal training in Classical, Jazz and Flamenco and years of experience teaching, Yeshito articulates the essential aspects of Flamenco that remain mysterious with many Spanish teachers.
flamenco palmas (All levels)

Palmas or rhythmic hand clapping is the percussion instrument of flamenco that is integral to any student of flamenco. We will start with the basic techniques of playing palmas with your foot, and finding our palmas tone. Using exercises and games we will develop our bulerías, tangos and contras palmas. We will also learn the essential accompaniment patterns for 4 or 8 count bailes (tientos, tarantos, etc.) and 12 count bailes (cantiñas, caña, soleá por bulerías, etc.) and practice accompanying them in class with live guitar and singing. If you are studying dance, singing or guitar, this fun class will develop your rhythm and deepen your command in any of those disciplines.
introduction to flamenco guitar

Tuesdays 5:30pm - 6:25pm PST (In-person and Zoom)
This is an introductory level class for students with little to no previous flamenco guitar experience. Guitarists will learn about flamenco guitar right hand techniques including rasgueados, rest stroke picado, arpeggios, and marcajes. The class will focus on two different palos (flamenco song forms) Solea and Tangos. Students will have the opportunity to perform at the student showcase in the summer of 2027.

This beguiling flamenco palo originates from the mining areas of Almería, in southern Spain. It has become a very popular palo for dance in a slow 4 or 8 meter. In this class we will learn the essential elements to accompany the singing and dance of this dark and dramatic palo. In the F# position on the guitar, the chord voicings of this palo are distinctively beautiful. We will learn the marcaje, an intro, salida, footwork and letra accompaniment and a falseta. This class is the guitar counterpart to the Tarantos dance class (Mon & Wed). Students will have the opportunity to accompany the dance classes and to perform at the student showcase in the summer of 2027.
Singing: Cantiñas (All Levels)

Tuesdays 7:30pm - 8:30pm PST (In-person and Zoom)
This class is the singing counterpart to the Cantiñas w/ Fan (Int./Advanced) dance class that happens right before this one. This fun and festive palo (song form) from Cádiz is a large family of styles that are in the major key and have a 12 count meter. Including Alegrías, Romeras, Mirabrás, and others, these cantes all share the flavors of Cádiz. We will learn the basic compás and palmas for this palo, and learn to sing a few different styles that can be sung as a cante solo or for dance. This class is open to all levels and these are moderately challenging styles to sing. Students will have the opportunity to sing at the student showcase in the summer of 2027.
